Kids.gov is a kid friendly website aimed to help students explore and learn
about multiple topics, including jobs and careers. The site is divided into
three age groups- each with its own designated area and information. The Kids
(Grade K-5) section includes a list of jobs. By clicking on the job types,
students can explore their career possibilities. The jobs are explained
through interviews, videos, or links to outside websites with additional
information. There are also a number of games to help students interactively
learn. The Teens (Grade 6-8) section provides a broader range of jobs to
explore, with additional games and link to provide more information. The
Grown-Ups section includes information for parents and teachers. There is a
lot of career information that can be relevant to adults. Additionally, there
are ideas and resources for putting together activities and lesson plans that
center around career exploration. A negative aspect of the website is that
some of the informational links go to websites that are not academically age
appropriate. Kids.gov can make a great tool for exploration; however, it would
be beneficial to use it in addition to discussions.
